NOTES

Video will be added after a server upgrade.

Stat Generator Keys will periodically change text to make room for additional keys.

PLANS
  • During the first month, updates will lean heavily on the HMMWV. The site was developed originally as a datadump, where I could file notes, sort imagery, etc. This is in support of a PDF and future print product.
  • The goal is to add at least one vehicle per day to the database, including whatever statistical information is available.
  • During the first 1-2 weeks after launch day, data entry will be slow. Complete conversion to a revised security system is needed, as well as some administrative features, like the data propagation tool and a "closed for maintenance" feature. Post launch week three will likely be focused on SC 2.0 data entry.
  • Downtimes: Downtimes are for maintenance purposes. The most typical reason is a database improvement. Database development occurs of the server, with the new vehicle database uploaded to replace the old one. Unfortunately, the web server occasionally locks down the old database for several hours at a time, preventing the old database from being overwritten. This in turn forces the site to be closed in order to prevent the lock from being renewed. The other purpose is to purge the site of spammers, though that isn't expected to be necessary for quite some time.
  • December reorganization: At some point in December 2007, there will be a massive categorical reorganization, replacing the existing structure with a structure derived from references produced by Jane's Information Group.
TECHNICAL UPDATES HISTORY
  • 7 DEC 2007 - There are now 165 vehicle entries in the database in varying degrees of completion. This well exceeds the one entry per dat update rate.
  • 28 NOV 2007 - Added a redirect feature which allows a vehicle with multiple identities to be identified without too much redundant data.
  • 26 NOV 2007 - Added the nationality marker, small flags that appear before variant listings. These flags will eventually propagate to the indexing pages.
  • 10-12 OCT 2007 - Sometime in the overnight hours of OCT 10-11, something happened which wiped out a significant amount of data on the website. The membership database had its entire contents deleted, while several other databases were outright deleted. To make matters worse, site traffic locked the membership database for nearly 24 hours. We were finally forced to take the extraordinary measure of deleting the website and waiting for the database to unlock before we could correct the problem and restore the site during the overnight hours of OCT 11-12. We still do not know what the cause was, and are still investigating the incident. From information in the membership database, we do know that a total of two entries have been lost from the records. The remainder were restored from backup databases located offsite.
  • 8 SEP 2007 - OOPS! Can't launch without an upload! Thus we missed launch day by three hours and 10 minutes.
  • 7 SEP 2007 - Launch Day! It's 11:48 PM EDT, so we barely made launch day. People can buy via paypal. Those buying via DTRPG or RPGNow will have some delays due to a registration system issue that is not on our end. Those purchasing via those site will have their subscription start dates adjusted to the date the database modifications are made.
  • 7 SEP 2007 - The site will finally go live late today. We needed to make a profound but simple change to the user registration system and database to make growth in the future more convenient. We also needed to build the paypal buy link. Subscription via RPGNow and DTRPG should be established sometime this weekend.
  • 7 SEP 2007 - Spycraft Generator is essentially completed. Defaults will disappear as baseline data entry progresses through the month.
  • 6 SEP 2007 - Got enough pain killers in me to drug a herd of elephants and its just barely masking the pain. Still a phantom spike gets driven into my brain from time to time. Then there's the wonderfully horrid sensation of feeling like I'm standing in the middle of the Sahara Desert at high noon on the hottest day of the year, while also feeling like I'm standing in the middle of a Siberian blizzard in only my underwear. I don't know if I should shiver like mad or sweat by the bucket, so my body has chosen to do both! Still, tomorrow is launch day and I still have a list of stuff to do. Whee!
  • 4 SEP 2007 - Migraine! Let's hope it doesn't eat too many days from the production schedule.
  • 31 AUG 2007 - Launch date pushed back due to family obligations. The new launch date is 07 SEP 2007. Sorry for any inconvenience this delay may cause.
  • 28 AUG 2007 - Spycraft Stat Generator partially finished. It is partial, as it requires a significant amount of data entry, covering qualities, upgrades, and generic model data. It is also partial due to the existence of qualities and upgrades, which cannot be determined merely by vehicle specifications. This is a second area where volunteer editors would be a good idea. Alos had to add additional specs to support spycraft - fuel type and consumption.
  • 27 AUG 2007 - The basic Action! Stat Generator is now online. It will soon be expanded to include AV by vehicle facing.
  • 27 AUG 2007 - The Combat! Stat Generator is now online.
  • 27 AUG 2007 - The Big Bang D20 Stat Generator now online. Added Armor Type to specs. Like the D20M stats, license restrictions cannot be determined automatically.
  • 24 AUG 2007 - Added Data Repopulator, an admin tool that will allow specs data from a default vehicle to be repopulated to entries for variants. This drastically reduces data entry time and thus will speed the addition of new vehicles.
  • 23 AUG 2007 - Came to the realization that d20 Mecha stat generation will not be significantly automated. The nature of options is what will make this impossible. However, we will establish a D20 Mecha Vehicle Builder and possibly find some volunteers to help manage the addition of stats to the database for that system. We'll also break the vehicle builder off to become a standalone online giant robot builder & database, hopefully by the end of the year.
  • 22 AUG 2007 - Default D20 Stat Generator now online. All stats except Hardness and License Restriction are generated automatically from physical specs.
  • 21 AUG 2007 - Video Support works on the home test server, but FLVs won't serve until some server upgrades occur with the web host.
  • 20 AUG 2007 - Specifications Support integrated. Release was delayed due to certain multi-form AJAX issues.
  • 17 AUG 2007 - Video support is done, with one exception. The web server requires the addition of one of the FLV supporting MIME types. Document support will be online by midnight.
  • 16 AUG 2007 - Live to consumers date is 1 SEP 2007.
  • 15 AUG 2007 - Added sectionals for video, documents, physical data, and game stats. Some of these features will be deployed via AJAX, rather than being part of the page load.
  • 14 AUG 2007 - Added photo removal tool. I'd like to open several areas to user contributions in the future, but security tools for eliminating spam and inappropriate content are necessary. An approvals system will also be needed before the user contribution feature can be enabled.
  • 12 AUG 2007 - Added Passkey security system, allowing buyers of Big Bang products to access additional content specific to each product.
  • 10 AUG 2007 - Site went live for testing.
